Young Filmmakers Workshop

Young Filmmakers Workshop aims to provide young and growing film talents in Malaysia an unprecedented platform to learn directly from Southeast Asian established filmmakers (as mentors). All the participants was below 26 year old, during the workshop, the South East Asian mentors will share their experience to them in Producing, Directing, Assistant Director, Editing, Sound, Cinematographer and Production Design. In the end, two of the potentials Malaysian young filmmakers will be represent Malaysia at the FLY Workshop by ASEAN-ROK.

1st Young Filmmakers Workshop

The 1st Young Filmmakers Workshop organized by FINAS in collaboration with Da Huang Pictures, the workshop lasted for 8 days beginning June 6, 2015 until June 14, 2015.

The program focuses primarily on the younger generation of filmmakers. Participants will produce three short films which will be guided by mentors through workshops on producing, directing, cinematography, editing and sound.

2nd Young Filmmakers Workshop

The 2nd Young Filmmakers Workshop returns to further focus on nurturing young and emerging filmmakers in Malaysia. Set on 19th to 26th August 2016, the workshop will feature 6 prominent mentors from Southeast Asia to guide 14 selected participants in a span of 8 days.

An initiative by FINAS, Next New Wave was founded in 2015 to help cultivate the spirit of experimentation and perspective amongst emerging filmmakers. One of the organization’s main objectives is the emphasis on Southeast Asian collaboration; exposing young Malaysian filmmakers to films from the region and also bringing in Southeast Asian established filmmakers as mentors to share their experiences.

3rd Young Filmmakers Workshop

The 3rd Young Filmmakers Workshop is back! This year the workshop will be held during Aug 19-26, 2017.

Selected participants will be cultivated in an intensive & in-depth 8 days training covering many aspects in film-production such as Directing, Editing and many more. At the end of the workshop, 2 most promising participants will be selected to represent Malaysia for the upcoming ASEAN-Republic Of Korea Film Leaders Incubator: FLY 2017 program on November 20th – December 3rd, 2017.

Young Filmmakers Workshop (Producing)

This 5-day online producing workshop is part of the Young Filmmakers Workshop series initiated by FINAS, focused on nurturing young and emerging filmmakers in Malaysia. 5 feature film project, each project brings in one producer and one director, total 10 emerging filmmakers will be mentored by local & International experience producer about how to “produce” your film in more practical aspect based on each project’s characteristics.

The aim of the workshop is to nurture producer who can bring the Malaysian cinema to the world stage and make the film made. At the end of the workshop, all five feature film projects from participants will be ready to move on to apply for the international project market and look for potential funders.
