SeaShorts 2018 Calling for Submission
Submission close on 3rd June 2018 (at 23:59 UTC/GMT).
-Director(s) must be from Southeast Asia.
-The short film submitted had not been premiered in any film festival before 1st June 2017.
-Country of production: Southeast Asian countries (fulfilled by at least two of these: film locations, core team members, main casts, or funding)
-Short film duration should not be more than 30 minutes, including credits
-No fees required.
-The submission should be done by owner of the short film.
-All submissions must not breach any third party copy right (i.e. if you use commercial video, music or stills, please clear the copy right before submitting).

Terms and Condition
1. Entry requirements and eligibility.
a) Director(s) must be from Southeast Asia.
b) The short film submitted had not been premiered in any film festival before 1st June 2017
c) Country of production must be in Southeast Asia countries (fulfilled by at least two of these: film locations, core team members, main cast, or funding)
d) Short film duration should not be more than 30 minutes, including credits.
e) Films already submitted to previous editions are not accepted, even in a new version.
f) Any type of film (fiction, animation, documentary, experimental) can be submitted, industrial or commercial films are not accepted
g) Films with any graphic violence, profanity, or mature content will not be accepted
h) Accepted screening or visual exhibition format: AppleProRes, H.264, MPEG-4, other format could be accepted on case by case basis with prior permission obtained.
i) Non-English works must have English subtitles; translation by voice over is not accepted.
2. Competition Category
a) SeaShorts Award: Southeast Asian Short Film Competition
For all the Southeast Asian submission including Malaysia
Must fulfil the clause 1a. to 1d.
Southeast Asian country referring to Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
b) Next New Wave Award: Next New Wave competition
- For Malaysian submission only.
- Director(s) must be from Malaysia.
- The short film submitted had not been premiered in any film festival before 1st June 2017
- Country of production: Malaysia ( fulfilled by at least two of these: film locations, core team members, main casts, or funding)
- Short Film Duration not more than 30 minutes, including credits.
c) A film may choose to participate to both Southeast Asian Short Film Competition and Next New Wave competition if the film is eligible for both categories.
d) The amount mentioned for each prize is not contractual. Additional prizes may be awarded.

b) The submission should be done by the owner of the short film.

d) The name and photo associated with your Google account will be recorded when you upload files and submit this form, please ensure you are using the desire Google account for submission.
e) The following material must be attached to the online submission:
- Bio-filmography of Director (<250 Character)
- Synopsis of Short Film (<100 Character)
- Still image/Poster of Short Film (max 300dpi)
f) Only online screener for preview purpose (Downloadable link: mov, mp4, H.264 with format 1080p) is accepted and taken into consideration.
g) Deadline for Submission: 3rd June 2018 (before 23:59 UTC/GMT)
a) Any film selected for the competition will not be removed from the selection. If necessary, SeaShorts reserves the right to appeal in court to claim any compensation deemed useful and necessary.
b) The list of the selected films will be available on the Festival's website on July the 4th, 2018 at the latest. All the contacts of the submitted films will be informed by email of the selection results.
5. Publication Authorization
a) All the texts, data and photos transferred by participants to SeaShorts during online submission will be used for reference in various online and offline bilingual publications (including Festival catalogue, website).
b) This material may be translated, corrected or edited prior to publication. Under the terms of the present regulations, all participants give SeaShorts free permission to publish and use this material for the above purposes.
a) All submission must not breach any third party copy right (i.e. if you used commercial video, music or stills, please clear the copy right before submitting.)
b) Participants declare that they hold all of the copyrights, intellectual property rights and all other types of rights, or the authorizations required, for the film to participate in the competition(s) and for all other rights granted to SeaShorts under the terms of the present regulations.
c) Consequently, participants guarantee SeaShorts against any and all claims, demands, suits, and actions taken against it by third parties on any grounds whatsoever. Participants undertake to guarantee, compensate and hold harmless SeaShorts against any expenses, in particular expenses and fees related to court proceedings, and direct or indirect damage, as well as any sentences imposed on SeaShorts or payment resulting from a settlement signed with the plaintiff.
d) In addition, participants are reminded that failure to hold the rights and authorizations required for the film to participate in competition(s) and for all other rights granted to SeaShorts as referred to in the present article, may result in the application of criminal and civil penalties as provided by the law.
7. Television broadcasting and the Internet
a) Participants give SeaShorts free permission to reproduce and broadcast clips of the selected films presented in the Festival on terrestrial, digital, cable, satellite and ADSL television channels and on Internet sites.
b) These clips are limited to 10% of the total duration of any film and not exceeding 30 seconds. They can only be used as part of stories covering the Festival, TV or Web programmes and interviews and/or promotional trailers or advertising for the Festival current or future editions.
c) Permission for using these clips is granted for a one-year period, starting on the date of submission of the film, and is renewable by tacit agreement, unless terminated by recorded delivery mail at least two (2) months before its term.
8. Archiving and viewing of films in SeaShorts’s Resource Centre
a) Since its creation SeaShorts has always conducted a mission of preservation of the short film heritage. To this effect, all the video recordings submitted for selection are stored and archived by SeaShorts, who may have to transfer them on new current or future (digital or other) formats for improved storage purposes.
b) Participants give SeaShorts free permission to implement, as part of its mission of preserving the short film heritage, the free, individual consultation of the films archived in its Resource Centre for a period of 10 years starting on the date of submission of the film and renewable by tacit agreement unless terminated by recorded delivery mail at least two (2) months before its term.
c) SeaShorts undertakes to use these films exclusively for its own strictly cultural, non-commercial purposes.
9. Prolongation of the Festival
a) Films selected for being presented at the Festival may be made available for free, individual viewing in the online libraries of NNW Films Sdn Bhd which the SeaShorts’s Resource Centre is attached. In this case a special authorization on a separate document will be requested from the rights-holders for these films.
b) Participants give SeaShorts free permission to make a video montage of excerpts of several films selected in the Festival (especially prized and award-winning films) and broadcast it on any format for Festival promotional use in Malaysia and abroad, for a period of one year starting on the date of submission of the film, and renewable by tacit agreement, unless terminated by recorded delivery mail at least two (2) months before its term.
a) Participation in the Festival implies acceptance without reservation of all the terms outlined in the present regulations.
b) SeaShorts or its representative reserves the right to cancel any submission or take any suitable measure in the event of a breach of regulations or in response to any behaviour disturbing the course of the Festival. In case of litigation, only the Malaysia courts shall be competent and have jurisdiction.
USD 2,500 Purin Award will be given by Purin Pictures to the most promising filmmaker in the SeaShorts Competition.
URSA Mini 4.6K EF worth USD 4995 will be given by Blackmagic Design to the Best Cinematography in the SeaShorts Competition.
Resolve Micro Panel worth USD 995 and Resolve Studio worth USD 299 will be given by Blackmagic Design to the Best Post-Production in the SeaShorts Competition.
